July 1 | Open to all Freedom Fighters
Boso sulked in the tent he had been assigned to as the plip plip plip of light summer rain hit the canvas roof. It was a hot, humid Saturday in July, and the cadets would have spent the afternoon swimming at Lake Kiziwa or Big Springs. Boso could almost feel the cold water on his sweaty skin. But a crime had been committed. The right hand's coin purse had been stolen from his desk, and all of the cadets were under suspicion. They were to be confined to their tents until the thief was apprehended. It was obvious the adults were hoping someone would rat out the culprit in exchange for their free day, but Boso knew no one was going to lag. It was an unwritten rule all cadets followed. No one likes a tattletale.
The red fawn's kohl-ticked ears pricked. Someone was coming. He groaned. One of the grown-ups had probably come to interrogate him!

Hefty paws carried Clawhauser to the tent where Boso was. Having been put on investigation duty by some of the higher ups, it was time for him to question the younger and while he had a feeling none of the youths would talk he would try to convince them to do otherwise. Tubby tail was curled close to him as he looked around with wide eyes.
He had been at the camp for a few days now but he still had not grown use to the size, it seemed to grow bigger every day. Leaving the big cat in wonder. It was then his gaze fell on Jasper, another person who had put on investigation duty. A small broke onto his maw and he gave a wave to the other. "Hey there, any luck?" He question enthusiastically, hoping that he would get an equally eager reply.
The sound of Clawhauser's voice caused the ex-pirate to look up from where he was standing. Ending his decision with the cadet he had just been talking with, before lifting his chin up just slightly. The shifter furrowed his dark brows before shaking his head, it being abundantly clear that he had not discovered a thing. The cadets weren't going to budge so thus far this was fruitless. "No, I haven't had any." He responded with little zeal as he approached the smaller mammal. His mismatched gaze studied Clawhauser before looking towards Boso's tent. He was already tempted to just turn back and report to Aladdin that they had no news but he had a feeling that, that wouldn't fly well with Simba nor Aladdin. He patted Clawhauser's shoulder before moving to enter the tent. The tubby cat following in suite.
As they entered the tent Clawhauser's gaze fell on Boso, offering the other a soft smile while clasping his paw pads together. "So, Boso, I'm sure you know why were here, we'd like to know if you saw anything earlier this morning or last night that may have something to do with what happened with Mr.Aladdin's coin purse. Can you tell us anything?"

"I don't see why we all had to stay in," Boso groused as Clawhauser and Jasper entered his tent. Collective punishment was a common occurrence, especially for the cadets. If a few cadets acted out, and if the person in charge was pressed for time or overwhelmed, a mass consequence was issued as opposed to trying to sort out who was actually in the wrong and address the root of the problem. It didn't matter if the majority of the cadets did what they were supposed to be doing. Everyone got punished. Nothing improves unity like collective disgruntlement!
"I saw nothing," Boso spat, knowing full well they would not believe him. They had no reason to. Boso lacked an alibi, and his track record as a cadet left much to be desired. The only thing he had going for him was that he was an animal. Animals have no concept of money. Boso would have no use for Aladdin's dinars.
He rolled his eyes. The right hand probably had every peacekeeper and their mother haranguing the cadets. Well, he can knock himself out; no one was going to grass.

"Is that so?"
A large she-wolf appeared at the entrance to the tent, strolling in as if no one else was inside. A smirk sat on her maw, as she padded slowly up to Boso. Her foxfire eyes narrowed, and her gaze turned dark. She easily dwarfed the fawn, even more so now with her thick fur ridging along her back, making her appear slightly larger.
"So tell me, little one. Where did you hide the purse?" Céleste said, pacing slowly around Boso, cutting him off from Clawhauser and Jasper. If they couldn't get an answer out of the fawn, maybe she could. The humid July heat was nothing like her native France, and if she were to be honest, the longer the fawn and the other cadets prolonged her torture, the worse it would get.
"Or perhaps...you're protecting someone else?" Céleste teased, snapping at Boso's hind leg.

Tailing her sister, Fleurette padded on over to Boso's tent, her blunt claws making thin gouges in the ground. There was a thief that needed to be apprehended. But the motto "snitches get stitches" had seeped into common usage and was posing a serious barrier to the investigation. None of the cadets wanted to be labeled a "grass." Being branded with that accusation would most certainly warrant an ass whooping. Fleur knew no one was going to talk. This was a complete waste of everybody's time and energy. She felt that they should just make all of the cadets run laps for the duration of their break and be done with it, but nooo, they had to humor Aladdin.
There went her afternoon.
"Yeah, tell us," Fleur chimed in, grinning stupidly. She shoved her nose into Boso's. "C'mon, you must know something."
Despite having better things to do, Céleste's not-so-little sister did had a reputation for picking on the cadets. For a fawn who still had his spots, Boso had quite a mouth on him and needed to be knocked down several pegs.

The disrespect that Boso had given him had Jasper's lips pulling back in an animalistic manner, it was typically hard to push at the shifter's buttons but today it was too damn hot to be messing around. Sharp canid teeth became easily visible even in human form, Clawhauser might of wanted to go easy on the youth but it was clear that the fawn needed to learn who was in charge here; and who the hell wasn't. The low bubble of a growl started to rumble in his chest but he was cut off as the dire sisters strolled into the tent, mismatched hues quickly turned to watch them enter and join into the interrogation.
While Jasper was more than content to let the sister's do their work, Clawhauser was not. He believed that while Boso did have a mouth on him, a more gentle approach could be better. The cheetah covered his mouth with his paws before going to intervene only to be stopped by Jasper. Who set a hand on his shoulder and cast him a weary glance. Clawhauser looked up at the younger, reluctant to leave it be but he was soon ushered out of the tent by the shifter. Reassured that he could handle it just fine. He frowned, and cast a glance back at the tent before he moved to meet up with the other Peacekeepers to see if they had any news to report.
Jasper watched the smaller mammal go before he turned his gaze back to the sisters and the deer. Arms crossed over his chest, a frown tugging at his lips.
"Boso, the sooner you tell us something, the sooner all of us can get this crap settled."
He really hated letting his temper take over but he was more than certain he was on the same page as everyone else. These damn interrogations were pointless, and really only being done to help satisfy Aladdin in some way. Though they were ninety nine percent sure that coin purse was gone for good.

Boso was furious. "I DIDN'T DO IT!" he yelled. "THIS IS BULLSHIT!" He was probably going to get reprimanded for cussing, but he didn't care at this point. He was going to get in trouble anyway. Might as well. "YOU HAVE NO PROOF!" Boso knew it was hopeless. All he could do was keep his mouth shut and, once they realize he's not going to lag, take whatever punishment they'll dole out like a man.
Sadly, he was not surprised Céleste thought he did it. They all probably thought he did it. Boso knew he was not the best example of a Freedom Fighter because he was THAT kid, a "hopeless case." A hopeless case would steal the right hand's dinars.
Boso's heart sank when Jasper sent Clawhauser out of the tent. That was not a good sign.
Céleste snapped at his hind leg, and Boso gave an undignified whimper. He looked up at Jasper. "D-did you see that?!" he demanded. "That's overkill!" He wasn't going to let Céleste bite his leg off, would he? Boso gulped. He was still getting used to working with animals he had been taught to avoid all his life. And he'd be lying if he claimed the dire wolves did not scare him.
When Fleur pressed her big, wet nose up against his berry-sized one, he almost pissed himself.

Kiki wasn't exactly the interrogation type, she was normally too kind for such matters, but pretty much all of the army had been asked to help track down the missing item, herself included. She had gone through several of the cadet's tents herself, politely asking if anyone has seen it. Nobody seemed willing to say. The shiba wasn't going to try and force a confession out of anyone if there was no proof they were involved, so she simply moved on.
Pointed ears twitched as she heard a commotion from inside the next tent. Apparently someone else was in there already, and it sounded like things weren't going well. Poking her little black nose inside, she saw two much larger canines, a human (or so she thought), and the poor little cadet who was currently being interrogated, a little fawn. She had looked inside just in time to see one of the wolves snap at the deer's leg, which set had set him off, complaining about them going too far, which Kiki found herself agreeing with. This was no way to treat children, whether they did wrong or not.
The shiba stepped inside the tent fully as Fleur shoved her face into Boso's, scaring the little deer. She politely cleared her throat, well aware of her tiny stature in comparison to everyone else, but spoke regardless, "Does this not seem a little..." she paused, trying to think of the right word, "...um, harsh?" They had no way of saying who had taken the coin bag, or if it had even been one of the cadets, to her it seemed a bit outlandish to use such scare tactics on them like this.

The situation was escalating quickly but Jasper seemed to keep a close eye on everything. From the way the sisters were reacting to the terrified fawn, to the moment when Kiki entered the tent. A frown pulled at his lips as he looked over to the other. "We have everything under control I assure you."
"However,"
He turned his attention back on the sisters and the fawn looking pointedly at Céleste. While scaring cadets into talking wasn't too bad getting a little too nippy was. The last thing they needed was Boso bolting and getting hurt. "I think you two need to back off for the moment." He wasn't a higher up from them, they were all the same rank but Jasper knew well enough that he often served as a mediator between the higher chain and lower. He had taken on the 'dad of the whole group' role on without even realizing it.
He moved to step between the sisters and Boso, moving the small fawn away from them before moving to kneel to get eye level with him. Even though his knee disagreed with such a movement. Once he was situated he met his gaze with the deer's, a frown on his face. "I'm going to tell you this, and tell you this now. Don't you ever raise your voice at a higher up again, do you hear me Boso? There are times that call for it and now was not the time, you know better. I know you know better, you may be a trouble maker at times but I know you want to be the best cadet you can be, or am I wrong?" Dark brows furrowed, watching the fawn's face for any indication otherwise.
"I'm sure you cadets have this rule about not grassing on anyone, right? That's good. To some extent that's good, but not when it comes to people on the same team. We are just as much a part of the Freedom Fighters as you, we all have to look out for each other, this disruption between ranks? It's all going to get us killed one day if we're not careful. I need to know you have my back, just as much as I have yours, and you know the sooner this gets settled the better. We need to be ready, we all need to be ready for this war and with these meager things getting in the way it's preventing that; but also preventing the good memories that we could have, the good memories we're going to need when thing gets tough. So please, Boso. As your friend, and as for someone who cares for you, if you saw anything tell me..."

A sharp whistle echoed through the tent suddenly. "Right, then!" its perpetrator declared. It was a small mouse, clad in fine clothing, surrounded by many who were quite a bit larger than him. Yet he carried himself as if *he* were the largest animal in the room, *he* had all the control.
"You're all making quite a racket," Basil of Baker Street declared, "and I'm afraid I must ask most of you to leave save for you," he pointed at Jasper, "and yourself, young buck," then at Boso. "You are indeed presumed innocent until proven guilty, but Peacekeeper Jasper is correct and fully justified in attempting to question you for whatever you may know."
A somewhat dramatic pause. "And knowledge is what we're after, yes?"

Boso's ears dropped as Jasper knelt down on one knee. Uh oh. He knew what was coming. The fawn suddenly felt less brave. Jasper just had that effect on people.
As soon as Jasper stopped reprimanding him for "raising his voice to a higher-up", the little roe deer fawn rolled his eyes like he'd seen his mother do whenever she was about to say something snippy. "Whatever!" he huffed insolently. It was as good as an "apology" as Jasper was going to get.
But Jasper wasn't done yet. "'We're on the same team?!' Oh that's rich coming from you!" Boso burst out. "You've been on my case ever since I got here! On all of our cases! There's a reason why we don't like snitching! It's because we're the only ones who can look out for each other! We're Freedom Fighters too! But you and the other so-called 'peacemakers' never treat us like we are! If one cadet screws up, we all get our privileges taken away. We all get punished! There's no incentive for us to grass! It's always lose-lose for us!" The tables turned the second Boso saw Basil scurry in. The fawn's stomach did a somersault. Shit. Basil was a detective known for his proficiency with observation, forensic science, and logical reasoning. If any one of them could solve the mystery, it was definitely the mouse. Boso scowled. He was not about to give these assholes the satisfaction of finding the real culprit.
There was only one way to stop the investigation from moving forward. Boso had one card left, and it was not an ace.
"You want your culprit?! Fine! I did it! It was me! I stole Aladdin's dinars!" he yelled. "I emptied his coin purse in the river. And I'd do it again! The right hand had it coming!"

To say the very least, Jasper was not happy or in the slightest bit pleased with Boso's reply. The snappish reply grated on his nerves but he tried to keep it together, knowing more anger would definitely just make the situation worse. As Basil came in, he looked over studying the other before glancing back at Boso noticing his expression change for the small sliver of a second before that scowl returned. Only after he was done yelling at him of course.
The admission to Boso stealing the coins should of just been left at that but...
Jasper didn't believe him. Boso didn't have an albi, and he wasn't the best cadet, but he was someone who was backed into a corner and wanted out. Something in the back of his mind was telling him that it wasn't the troubled fawn in front of him. His mismatched hues watched Boso for a moment but he did not move from his spot. "We are on the same team, whether you choose to believe it or not." He responded but it wasn't scolding like before. "And we can look out for you, we are looking out for you but regardless I'll speak to Aladdin about making punishment more fair." With a hefty sigh he stood up with a grunt, giving Boso one last glance, then looking at Basil. "Basil." He murmured in greeting before moving to head out of the tent to go speak with Simba and Aladdin.

Basil gave a very inquiring look at Boso after the latter's angry confession. "So quickly do the youth break," he murmured under his breath.
He didn't believe it for a moment. The criminal elements of society often formed brotherhoods and bonds in their misdeeds together, and the fawn had all the marks of a scapegoat.
Still, best not to let whoever the *real* culprit was think they were safe. "Very well, then," he declared after Jasper made his exit. "Cadet Boso, I am grounding you to the confines of the camp for the moment. You are not to leave the premises and I will be making a list of tasks for you to be completed."

Kiki watched silently as Jasper spoke with Boso, slowly nodding her head in agreement with his words. Boso wasn't going to take Jasper's words as kindly it seemed, as the young buck snapped back with an attitude. He complained about how unfair it was that everyone was punished if one cadet messed up, and Kiki could understand. Coming from a litter of many pups, she remembered as a young dog, if one got in trouble and her parents didn't know the culprit, they all were punished. It was easy to see how they thought this unfair.
She jumped to the side as a sharp whistle sounded next to her. Basil asked everyone to leave, and Kiki was about to do so, but as she turned to nose her way under the tent flap, Boso's outburst stopped the small dog in spite of herself. Her ears folded back, and the shiba frowned, "I'm sorry you see it that way Boso, but thank you for telling us." she turned to her fellow peacekeepers, bowing her head in respect, "Jasper, Basil." With that, Kiki left the tent, leaving the other two to deal with the issue.

Céleste was beyond happy when her sister showed up, and as they always did, they teamed up to torture the poor fawn, hoping to scare a confession out of him. Fleur had pressed her nose directly into Boso’s, and the fawn nearly fainted. But as soon as Kiki had come in, inquiring about her and Fleur’s methods, Jasper told them to back off. The she-wolf backed off with a snarky snarl, as she went to her sister’s side.
“As you wish, Monsieur Jasper.” Céleste muttered. She then stood back to watch, as one more Peacekeeper joined in. A little mouse, wearing clothes like Jasper? Céleste had never seen such a thing. The stranger part, however, was the fact that Boso seemed compelled to confess as soon as he appeared. The she-wolf was curious.
If intimidation wasn’t the key to getting a confession, what was?
She padded out of the tent with that question in mind, nudging her sister to come along with her. Perhaps she would learn more about the strange little mouse as the days passed.
