July 2nd | Open to the Outsiders
The sun was beginning to set and the hot soil would soon cool down. A grey lioness with strange-looking eyes was on the prowl. It looked like she was on her own for the moment. Owl was usually sighted alone. This wasn’t because she was shy, but because most self-respecting predators wouldn’t waste their time wondering around aimlessly at night with her. Owl liked to collect things. She went out whenever she had free time. She thought the objects of the world around her had certain powers.
The healer started to put some distance between herself and the termite tower she’d been resting under. Plants were scant in the Outlands, so if she wanted to restock her herb supply, she had to venture from home. Her shadow looked slightly purple and became longer and more prominent in the wake of the lowering sun. Owl paused for a few moments, looking in the direction of the shadows were being cast. Her red and yellow eyes slowly followed the shapes of dark on the ground upward to see where they pointed.

From the source of the shadow poured a voice thicker than wine, thicker than honey. "Owl," it said, as way of greeting, "out for a stroll?"
Detaching from the gloom padded another leonine figure, though this one was cast in a hue of silver a few shades lighter than the present cat. Green eyes bright under the moonlight Sarafina took in the sight of her pridemate with a demure smile. The undercurrent of her speech was vague enough; simply an innocent question. It wasn't unheard of by far for anyone in the Outlands to move about at night. They were animals after all, and most predators with sense preferred the coolness of night to the day's unrelenting heat.
Unperturbed by anything so trivial as 'personal space' Sarafina stepped up to gently bump the other lioness' shoulder with her hip. Her head tipped back as she opened her muzzle ever so slightly, allowing the scents of the night to bathe her palate. "Looking for something in particular tonight?"

Owl had a feeling the shadows were trying to tell her something. She trusted the guiding hand of the World more than anything. As the Queen stepped out to reveal herself, the healer took a step forward. She wasn’t averse to socialization at all. In fact, she was quite friendly, sometimes naively so, but often a bit too cryptic for most to tolerate.
“Gathering, actually,” Owl said in response to the first question.
When Sarafina brushed against her, Owl leaned in slightly. Being raised among a hyena clan whose greeting rituals involved a healthy deal of physical contact, Owl was more than desensitized to such ordeals. Though, she did prefer to reserve most touching beyond greetings to friends only.
She was quiet for a moment, her eyes looking toward the horizon of the wasteland. Her brows furrowed as she said:
“Anything green hopefully.”

"Green would be helpful indeed." Sarafina's gaze of liquid teal flicked back to the termite mounds. They served as dens for the new soldiers well enough, but she would have to discuss with Scar on the wisdom of moving into the heavier protection of the Outlands' canyons. With enough persuasion of a violent variety she was sure that even the most stubborn of the hyena clans currently inhabiting the area would see the wisdom in relocating. For now though...
"Do you need any help?"

“Where there’s water, there’s green,” Owl felt the need to add.
The younger lioness turned to look at Sarafina.
“An extra paw is always good!” Owl said, smiling, “We can carry more back to storage if there’s two of us.”
She moved a few paces ahead, further away from the termite towers and toward the wasteland. Looking behind, she said:
“I was planning to head to the riverbank.”
Owl thought it was best to be upfront about what she wanted to do, considering it could have been a risky endeavor what with the crocodiles that made the river their home. In a way, the reptiles were a bit like guards to the entrance of the Outlands, but they often seemed to have their own motives. It was Owl’s experience that the crocodiles didn’t like to play nice. Aside from them, she would be so close to the boarder of the Pride Lands. She planned to stay on her own side, but she wouldn’t put it above her enemies to make annoyances of themselves regardless.
