Sarabi
Known Aliases: Former queen of the pridelands, mother, queen Sarabi, mom (by Simba and Kula).
Rank: Council Member
Alignment: Freedom Fighters (Lawful Good)
Gender: Female
Age: 12 years
Personality:
Sarabi tried her best to be a supportive mother and queen, always wanting the best for her family and her kingdom. Sarabi is a lot softer when it comes to enforcing laws and rules than her late mate was, although still strict and believing heavily in those laws and rules she is far more patient and kind when relaying them or enforcing them.
She can also be very protective of those closest to her, she was already protective before the incident that caused Mufasa's death but since then she has become even more so.
Although she can be playful and often teases those closest to her, Sarabi is not soft or weak. Life has made Sarabi strong and wise beyond her years, spending a lot of her life learning how to properly rule the pride lands, little tends to faze Sarabi either. There is little that can be done to make her genuinely upset to the point where she reacts, if she does react it will often be with words over actions. Sarabi prefers to remain cool and under control, but when she does eventually lose her temper she can be sharp tongued and knows how to hit others where it hurts.
Backstory:
Sarabi had a peaceful cubhood in another land away from the pridelands, she was betrothed to Mufasa from a young age. Something that everyone hoped would bring the two prides together, which it seemed to do, as Sarabi spent most of her life after the betrothal in the pridelands. Sarabi grew up learning the laws of the pridelands, growing up alongside Mufasa and the other prince that seemed more than a little moody, neither Mufasa or Sarabi were sure about the arrangement at first. Both acting more than a little awkward around each other for a good while after moving to the pridelands, her family assured her that this was normal and nothing that wouldn’t go away with time and more interactions between them. Despite all this, Sarabi found it hard to make proper friends outside the family, and could never really bond with Sarafina (or Scar to an extent). Meaning that she often spent time with Mufasa when she wasn’t with other lionesses in the pride, only adding to the awkwardness on several occasions. Not that anyone hated Sarabi, or even disliked her, it seemed that everyone at least liked her being around and enjoyed spending time with them. She just couldn’t form strong bonds with most of the lionesses.
But when the time came for Mufasa and Sarabi to be wed, when they were in their late teens, Sarabi accepted her role as queen and didn’t feel quite so out of place anymore. The bonding with the other lionesses mattered a lot less when she found she was really starting to fall in love with Mufasa, and he too seemed to be falling more in love with her. The pair ended up spending a lot of their time together, Sarabi learning as much as she could about ruling the kingdom and only spending time away from Mufasa when she absolutely had to.
Sarabi tried her best to be a good queen once the previous rulers stepped down, using all the information that she had been learning throughout her life. Mufasa and Sarabi tried many times for cubs but saw no real rush, and it appeared that nature seemed to agree as Sarabi had trouble conceiving.
Eventually Simba was born much to Mufasa and Sarabi’s delight. Sarabi became motherly, putting all her energy into raising Simba alongside Mufasa. Teaching him whatever she could and doting on him more than any of the other mothers did with their own children.
Then Mufasa and Simba died, before she even had the chance to tell Simba about her life or teach him the lessons she had wanted to pass on. Sarabi wanted to see the bodies of her fallen loved ones, but Mufasa’s was the only body she could be shown, according to Scar anyway. He took her to the body regardless, leaving her to mourn over the loss of her true love and her only friend. She started to grow distrustful of Scar, wondering if Simba was truly dead if there was no body to be found. She could smell Simba on Scar, and on Mufasa, but without any evidence Sarabi could do nothing.
This only grew when he brought the hyenas into the Pridelands after his coronation, letting them lay waste to the land and forcing the lionesses to hunt for them as well as for themselves. During this time Sarabi took Nala in as a surrogate daughter for some time since Sarafina also went missing during the event that killed her mate, deciding to fill her mind with stories about the law and the land that she never got to tell Simba.
Scar in a moment of mourning (apparently) took her as a mate briefly to produce a cub and be queen again for a short time, she accepted because it took so long to conceive Simba that she assumed the mating couldn’t possibly produce a cub and at least she could be queen. Much to her dismay they conceived a cub, a girl (thankfully) that was named Kula. Not long after, Zira seemed to take her place as queen, not that Sarabi seemed to care anymore. Things were falling apart and now she had a cub that she needed to care for. Kula could never really replace Simba in her mind and she often ignored the cub, especially upon Sarafina’s return and Scar’s subsequent promotion of Sarafina to queen. She also backed away from Nala at this time, closing herself off from everyone within the pride more as time progressed.
Time dragged on and Nala was convinced to leave and search for help, one of Sarabi’s last ditch attempts to change the course of fate.
But Nala was gone for some time and Sarabi continued to close herself off, becoming bitter and snappy towards most of the pride who were starting to get rather relaxed about the whole situation. She did her best to convince most of the pride that Scar and those around him were all awful and causing the land to die.
Nala returned with Simba, Sarabi was beyond happy, Simba chased Scar out of the lands and those who supported him left. Nala and Simba became mates (as they were meant to) and Sarabi let them take over as rulers while ruling from the sidelines, whispering things in Simba’s ear. She didn’t care or really notice when Kula went to Sacr’s side during the segregation of the pride after the battle.
News of the war reached them when Aladdin came to their lands and Sarabi took a step back to let Simba be king, nothing had happened yet, the war seemed far away. She let all the responsibility fall on Simba as to what action to take about the war, but still whispering in his ear. Sarabi thought that he could do no wrong, and refused to see many of his mistakes.
When Clopin separated from Simba’s side Sarabi cared little, too many cooks can spoil the broth as they say.
When Nala defected as well Sarabi was a little upset about this, mostly because it ruined the lovely little structure that had formed for Simba and the royalty within the pridelands. Since it also reflected poorly on her to have her son lose his mate to another side, at least it was an ally side. Part of her mind remembering that Sarafina was Scar’s queen, and that maybe Nala was following down her mother’s path. Sarabi wrote off Nala as a lost cause.
Now she rules quietly over Simba’s shoulder, while still letting him make mistakes, she can’t see any fault in his ruling, as all she sees is her perfect son born from her perfect mate and perfect king.
