Nala
Known Aliases: Queen of Pride Rock (former)
Rank: Assassin (for now)
Alignment: Rogues (Chaotic Good)
Gender: Female
Age: 6 years (roughly)
Personality:
Nala is extremely persistent and responsible due to her growing up during Scar’s reign, that time has also made her realise the importance of accountability. Nala is firm and resolute in her beliefs and isn’t one to be stamped down by others words, good at holding her own in both verbal and physical battles. This can make her rather stubborn, and she will rarely be brought down by yelling and accusations, she grew up with Scar telling everyone they were wrong so there is little anyone can throw at Nala that will hurt her.
Nala is also fearless and loyal to those she is closest to, willing to put aside her own fears and worries in order to help a friend in need. Once she has made friends with you, in any capacity, she will defend you with everything she has. This also transfers over to her being courageous and willing to fight verbally and physically for what she believes is right.
Nala has grown into a wiser figure as she aged and became a mother, putting a lot of value on thinking things through before charging in and making accusations. She understands the value of honesty and will never choose to lie over being truthful, especially when it came to her children and subjects. She believes in her children and their decisions, more than willing to accept and support them in whatever they choose to do with their lives.
The former queen does have a darker side, as much as she can see past the faults that others make, she isn’t soft. Nala works to her own moral compass that she developed growing up, she believes that Scar should’ve been killed but also disagreed with the decision Simba made to exile the outsiders.
Backstory:
Nala was the first cub born to Sarafina and a rogue male, born not long after Sarabi had given birth to the next heir of the lands Simba. Nala’s childhood was full of prosperity and happiness, spending time playing with Simba and the few other cubs that started to be born by other members of the pride, idolising Mufasa and Sarabi. This all fell apart when King Mufasa and Prince Simba, and her own mother were pronounced dead by Scar and Zira. Nala was left mostly alone and helpless, raised by her aunt initially, Nala learnt a lot of things in a very short space of time.
Nala spent the bulk of her life alive during Scar’s rule over the land, initially having no problem with it, that was how succession worked after all. Mufasa and Simba had died, Scar was the only blood left to become ruler of the lands. But soon she noticed things due to being around her idol Sarabi so much, she saw that the land began to die around her, herds started to thin and the rainy season got shorter and shorter.
When Nala was a year and a half her mother returned and Nala was overjoyed, she wasn't dead, a suspicion of both Zira and Scar crept into her brain during this time. It also seemed like Scar refused to listen to reason. The previous queen, Sarabi, tried to explain what was needed for the land to survive but it appeared like Scar wouldn’t listen to anything but his own voice for some time. But with her mother as queen Nala had high hopes for the future, surely Scar would listen to Sarafina.
And for a while it appeared that he did, the lands continued to die but things seemed to be going alright for her and her mother. She'd heard whisperings from the rest of the pride and tried to shut them out, eventually shutting Sarabi out of her life as the old queen seemed to think rather lowly of her mother and Scar. Nala wasn't about to stand for her insulting her mother and stopped considering her word to be law, or that her ideas were the best ones for the pride. Bad seasons happened, this had to be one of them.
Nala grew angry and restless, Scar seemed to truly care for her mother and the crown that had fallen on his head but little else. So, she decided, after consulting with no one, to try and find a male out of the pride to overthrow Scar, kill him if necessary, and drive the hyenas out of the pridelands. There were parts of the plan she didn't like, but maybe a new leader would at least get the hyena's out of the land and cause better seasons to return to the pridelands.
Many moons passed before she found anyone of use, most of whom wanted nothing to do with the drama in the pridelands. Eventually, on a hunt, she stumbled upon a lion who attacked her for her meal. After a brief fight, it was clear that it was Simba, the lost prince. Nala was overcome with a series of emotions, divulging in all of them one at a time over the course of the day and night. Finally resting with anger again, as Simba decided that he didn’t want to return, didn’t want to fight for the land that had been destroyed by Scar’s hubris. However, over the course of the night, something seemed to have changed in Simba, and he had decided to return without her.
She ran after him, catching him before he got too close to pride rock. The fight that ensued was exactly what she had been waiting for, Scar was overthrown and Nala had initially thought him dead. In the wake, however it was revealed that Scar had not died, and his followers were more than annoyed with the result of the fight. Nala watched in horror as Simba cast them out, the very lion’s that she had grown up with and become friends with were being cast aside by the lion she had brought home. Her own mother included in that mix. Thoughts creeping in that her solitary decision to seek him out had been worse than letting the lands continue as they were with Scar as king.
With a heavy heart, she assured herself that it was for the best, after all the lands were starting to renew. Simba’s rule began and she was pronounced queen giving birth to several healthy cubs, Kopa (if he is brought in), Kion and Kiara. Nala took her role very seriously and tried to do what was best for the pride and the land, but Simba seemed to only care about keeping the Outsiders away, and the cubs that Nala had given birth to safe from threats she did not understand. The lands seemed to prosper and Nala was content for a while, though Simba rarely came to her for advice on matters that she assumed would concern both her and him.
This only grew worse when the war came, Aladdin became Simba’s right hand man and was placed in a rank higher than her own. Nala was fuming but kept it mostly to herself, it was only when King Clopin was brought into the war that the divide grew. Nala found herself agreeing with the points Clopin was bringing up, Simba had grown up a stranger to her, and she had been far too accepting for her own good. She began to see the bad parts of Scar in him, a lion who only cared about himself. If anything, he started to seem worse than Scar in her mind. At least Scar had cared about Sarafina, his queen, and had listened to her opinions and strategies.
King Clopin separated from the group and Nala found herself inclined to go with him, deciding for now that she could never join her mother on Scar's side. So she said her goodbyes to her children, extending the offer to them if they wished to follow. Nala didn’t speak to Simba before leaving, she assumed that her cubs would inform him of her decision.
