Sarafina
Known Aliases: None
Rank: Outsider Queen
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Gender: Female
Age: Adult
Personality:
Quiet and unassuming, you could be forgiven for thinking that Sarafina is a meek and submissive lioness. She is not. Sarafina is a lioness who knows how to pick her battles, and pick them well. If a matter is one that she knows she would not likely prevail in she will simply move on and accept that which can not be changed. It is when she knows she has the power to conquer that she becomes truly ruthless, attacking matters with speed and ferocity that one would not expect from a lioness of her disposition.
In argument and conversation Sarafina is the type to offer her points and then let her opponent stew in thought over it.
She is the reason when her husband is madness, his empathy for his family. His heart, when he desires it.
Sarafina is loyal to her mate above all. Not even her cubs can sway her from his side, though she does harbor deep affection for them.
Backstory:
Sarafina was born to rouges after the disbanding of her parents' pride. Raised 'on the road' she learned a great deal about survival and taking the necessary risks to survive. How sometimes morals were simply not as important as doing what had to be done.
Come her adulthood Sarafina had split from her parents due to their demise at the paws of old age. Knowing her position as a young lioness with only the protection of her own claws she was quick to seek out a protector of sorts. Through seduction and bartering she hitched up with a good strong male. They would hunt together and he would protect her: in return she was to be his alone and bear him whenever he so desired.
A cub and another pregnancy later found Sarafina alone, 'widowed' by the hyena who plagued the Pridelands with their cackles and fearsome jaws. It was there that Prince Taka stumbled upon her; her fangs deep in the soft flesh of a hyena's belly and snarls upon her lips as her victim's fellows watched her feed. Intrigued and infatuated by the sight of the bloodied countenance of what looked to be the very spirit of life's battles he was quick to send the remaining hyena scurrying on their way.
Sarafina and Prince Taka bonded quickly, her idolization of this witty prince earning him her eternal loving loyalty. Through sweet whispering manipulation he was able to instate her and her cubs into the Pridelands as his personal consort. Her relationships were controlled through gentle prods and suggestions to ensure that the pride would consider her an acceptable queen when the time came. That being said, no friendship was allowed to keep to a course where it might threaten his loving control of her. He won her with his dark humor and teasing jibes, the gentle touch of him against her and the way that they played while still young adults. She listened to his raves regarding his father and brother, how Ahadi favored the golden son and taught him the way of the kingdom when all knew that he had been Mohatu's chosen heir. It was she who groomed and combed his mane in silence as he spoke, eventually calming him with the distraction of her gentle tongue over his face.
During one of these ranting sessions Sarafina expressed an idea to try and impress Ahadi. Thus the plot to make Mufasa look bad was born, with a herd of water buffalo the weapon of choice. Things backfired terribly when the herd turned on the pair of lions who had orchestrated the whole thing. In protecting his young mate Taka pushed Sarafina aside, taking the blow that had been meant for her.
A fierce blow to the face knocked Taka to the ground and decided Taka's future, as Ahadi had witnessed the entire ordeal. With a booming roar the rouge king decreed that Taka was obviously unfit to carry on the inheritance Mohatu had gifted his unworthy son. Defeated and thoroughly humiliated the prince withdrew from all. The name Taka was discarded in favor of the moniker Scar.
Sarafina remained with her lover through his pain and humiliation, his true confidant in all he did. When he turned to the hyena in friendship it was Sarafina who misled any interested party as to his whereabouts. She who kept watch and hunted for the prey he could use to buy the spotted beasts' favor. When it was time for Scar's plans to begin... It was she who nodded her silent approval.
Not all plans fly true to their mark, however.
It was Zira who followed the sound of stampeding hooves and leonine screams to the outlet of the gorge that fateful day. Sarafina's hunting party, her not having known the full details of her lover's plan, had gotten caught crossing in front of the gorge's sloping outlet as the wildebeest herd thundered out. Most were crushed, trampled beneath unforgiving hooves. A few, Sarafina included, were battered but had successfully fled to the river. It was a very near thing as the current there was swift and ferocious. Sarafina struggled to the opposite bank. As her bruised body clawing desperately at the mud for purchase a sudden strike caught her in the head, stunning her. For a few precious seconds the lioness could only stare dumbly at the figure standing over her. The sharp angles of Zira's face were cracked into an expression of mad glee.
"Now my beloved will be free to follow his true heart!"
The words were whispered at such a volume that Sarafina had trouble catching them over the sound of rushing water, but before her lips could even form the 'wh' of a question another strike lanced through her, slicing into the side of her neck and startling enough for Zira's next shove to find purchase. With a yowl Sarafina fell back into the water... Leaving a triumphant Zira on the shore.
It took well over a month for Sarafina, battered and bloodied, to find herself well enough to travel back to Pride Rock. Only one thought followed her as she drew back her strength, dogging every step that brought her closer and closer to home.
She was going to get her crown and beloved back from that bitch. With interest.
To say that Sarafina became a thorn in Zira's side was an understatement. At her return the mad lioness was immediately dropped from the affections Scar had held for her in his grief. It was Sarafina's paw that stayed Scar's, ceasing his call for Zira's blood. Mercy had no home in the gaze that turned on the red-eyed lioness though; Sarafina wanted Zira to suffer. She wanted Zira to watch her take back everything that had belonged to her even as Scar's firstborn grew in her. Watch how the resulting runt was discarded in favor of her perfect self.
Of course... Then her daughter had to go and do something foolish.
Sarafina fought at Zira's side for what she hoped to be the only time in her life, forcing the hyena off of Scar following his defeat. Together the lionesses saved the life of the lion they loved, stealing him away to the outlands where he could heal in relative peace.
