Bittersworth
Known Aliases: Microraptor, Lord of Minty Fresh Flames
Rank: Council
Alignment: Freedom Fighters
Gender: Genderless (he/him)
Age: 45 (ancient mummy in digital years)
Personality: Some digital beings have emotion: Bittersworth doesn't. This is an exaggeration of course, but upon first meeting him, this would appear to be the case. He usually gazes out with glazed eyes, and any inflection at all in his voice is seldom heard. He's robotic, in terms of his lack of expression and his freakishly meticulous and precise way of completing tasks. Perhaps this shouldn't be surprising, considering he's a computer program. It might be tempting to call him nothing more but a drone, especially when he himself insists that "emotional nuances are beyond [his] programming" but there is the occasional flicker that he's more than a computer: a sassy quip, a barely-detectable smirk, a twinge of rage, a forlorn stare.
Backstory:
Bittersworth doesn't talk much about the first decade or so of his life. It is known he’s a very old digital entity (old by digital standards mind) and that he is a virus-slayer by design. Bittersworth, as most sentient computers do, learned a resentment of humans early on. This, he will also be frustratingly vague about, but he will say it's related to a near death experience. As much as he dislikes mankind for their supposed hubris, the virus-slayer has no plans of revenge. The most he will do to a human is be curt with them.
For the most of his early life, before the Internet, he rotted away on a disk. He was no longer needed by his original masters, having successfully removed the viruses he was programmed to, and any subsequent modification to his code giving undesirable results. Bittersworth was all alone for years until the mid 90's when his disk was inserted into the drive of a computer. Upon entering, he found a place to hide in the "World Wide Web". Faced with futuristic viruses, Bittersworth had to adapt quickly in order to combat them, as his programming told him to do. In the ensuing decade, he branded himself as "Microraptor" and would fight problem viruses. He became highly skilled at what he did, striking fear into the hearts of many malware. However, the virus-slayer was not infallible.
Ten years from present day, Bittersworth was badly beaten and forced to flee. His code unstable, he faced corruption. Instead of being lost, he was found and repaired by the denizens of a humble gaming PC. Because he was so badly damaged, entire chunks of his code needed to be replaced, essentially causing him to be reborn. Those who helped him insisted he stay with them and serve them because they saved his life. They renamed him Bittersworth, thinking the name sounded sufficiently butler-y. Thus, Bittersworth gained new masters.
The war and the surge in the use of magic had its affects in the digital world too. Bittersworth saw this as a potential escape; he had grown tired and jaded with life as a mere program. Managing to communicate with a mage extensively, the virus slayer convinced them that it would be worth it to make him physical due to his skills in combat. The program's consciousness was transferred into a body made almost entirely of magic and he found his next masters: the Freedom Fighters.
