January 4th, a call to arms. Plans are made and put into motion.
The sun's rays stretched the sky in a final farewell as Sarafina scaled the slight rise of the termite mound. The day's heat was fading quickly now, giving way to the welcome coolness of the evening. Now was the time that most of the predators that served her king would grow truly active and thus was the best time for what she planned. Her husband, her king, her beloved, he laid deep within the mounds at her paws. Resting and regaining the strength he'd lost in the battle for Pride Rock. As such it was she who would take point in the leadership of the growing army.
She was, after all, their queen.
A glance took in the ruddy red shape of her step-daughter seating herself just below and off to the left of her own position. Kula was, by all rights, her own daughter these days. Though still young it was a boon to have Scar's daughter at her side, giving her more legitimacy in her position above the rest while her father was deposed.
From her position Sarafina took in the growing crowd with a cool eye. She'd given some thought to her seating, choosing a location among the mounds that would offer her just enough height to see over the heads of those before her and into the throng, but no more. She had no desire to distance herself from those who chose to fight with her. Loyalty was a trait that required much encouragement. Distance both physical and metaphorical would only serve to strain it.
A few moments were allowed for the gathered to settle and their gazes to rise. Once Sarafina was comfortable with knowing she held their regard an easy smile touched her muzzle.
"Friends and allies, I am honored by your quick response to my call. I see many new faces among you; I am Sarafina, mate and queen to Scar and leader of the lionesses. My husband regrets the necessity of his absence. Still, I have been asked to offer his most sincere thanks to you all for your support in this harrowing time. That is not why this meeting has been called, however. I'm sure many of you are unaccustomed to such..." A paw was lifted and waved in a slow arc, a gesture that encompassed the mound she sat upon and beyond. Sarafina's lips pursed for a moment as though she needed time to find a polite enough adjective for their current abode. "Well. Accommodations such as this. I believe that it is time for us to stretch the muscles of this alliance, as it is, and find us all a place more suitable." The roving paw returned to the dust where her tail could be curled around to her feet as she met the gazes of a handful of her fighters in turn.
"As it just so happens there are systems of canyons and mountains of fire-and-rock nearby that the king and I believe could easily keep our numbers watered and sheltered. Unfortunately they are currently the home of a handful of hyena clans. What falls to us is the task of relocating these clans or bringing them into the fold -- and for that we will all need to work with one another."
