Conquest
I'm sure you all are already familiar with classics like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and more. There's always a case of mistaken identity, a villain who suffers a brutal death that's entirely their fault, a "funny" sidekick and more often than not, a love interest. In the end, the protagonist wins, and everything is just hunky-dory. But life doesn't always resolve itself in a clever or poetic way, and it's seldom easy, fair or even meaningful. In fact, after "happily ever after" - to put it bluntly - everything went to shit.
In the aftermath of Jafar’s defeat, it was common knowledge that the psychopathic sorcerer almost destroyed the world in his mad pursuit of power. The people of Agrabah had had enough. Many felt a personal betrayal that the incumbent sultan had a magi as the royal vizier, and they deduced that it was safe to assume that every magi had the capacity to elevate themselves to the level of gods, and that the problem could be solved if all of the magi were driven from Agrabah. The sultan felt he owed his people something after everything Jafar (and his ilk) had put them through, and there weren't that many magi left in the city anyway, so he gave in to their demands. But the other city-states in the Arabian Peninsula, with the exception of the Land of the Black Sand, New Mesmeria and Upanistan, followed suit. Though Queen Deluca and King Zahbar offered the homeless magi sanctuary in New Mesmeria, the majority of them were angry they had been thrown out of their homes for no reason and a few even wanted payback.
Through blood magic, Jafar was brought back from the dead by his necromancer sister Nasira. Jafar used the magi's exile as justification for settling the score under the guise that he was standing up for those who had had their rights stolen. He promised the magi everything that had been stolen from them and more in exchange for their complete subjugation. He named his new army the "Blackbloods" to remind them of their unjust exile, and together, they invaded Agrabah. Aladdin gave it his all, but it soon became clear that there was no hope in stopping the invasion. The royal family and a handful of survivors fled the city-state. The rest were never seen again. After conquering Agrabah, Jafar focused on taking over the rest of the Arabian Peninsula and bringing Aladdin "to justice."
Aladdin and the rest of the survivors could not stay in the Arabian Peninsula for long, so they ended up in the Pride Lands, a kingdom made entirely up of animals. Aladdin wanted to free Agrabah and the rest of the Arabian Peninsula from Jafar's tyranny, but he knew he needed an army first and considered asking King Simba to join him. The survivors were not too keen on asking a bunch of "wild animals" for help, but they were in no position to be choosy plus Aladdin admired Simba. He explained their situation to Simba and argued that once Jafar inevitably conquered the rest of the Arabian Peninsula, he may turn to the Pride Lands next. Simba was, understandably, reluctant to involve his kingdom in a war that had nothing to do with them, so he declined Aladdin's proposition but said that the survivors were more than welcome to settle in the Pride Lands.
He changed his mind weeks later. While making preparations for Kupatana, Rafiki found scorch marks in Mizimu Grove, and not too long after, Muhimu claimed she just saw a human lift a boulder from the ground without touching it. Simba sent Aladdin and his Lion Guard to investigate, and it did not take long for them to catch the Blackbloods scoping the area. After unsuccessfully asking them to leave, Simba had no choice but to declare war. Aladdin had a magic carpet that could take him anywhere in the world, so Simba asked him to spread the word about Jafar's conquest. Thus, the Freedom Fighters were born. One person Aladdin had persuaded to join their cause was King Clopin Trouillefou, an assassin with a shady past. As a fellow king, he had taken up the post as general in the Freedom Fighters, and for a little while, things ran smoothly given the circumstances.
But Clopin soon grew discontent with the way Simba ran things. For all his benevolence and inherent goodness, the lion king was not without fault. Simba was paranoid and unwilling to forgive, segregating the Outsiders for supporting the late Scar. With the belief that he knew best, Simba was quick to jump to conclusions, not giving others a chance to speak for themselves and often made decisions without consulting the rest of his generals. Clopin accused him of not respecting the rest of the Freedom Fighters. Simba was also far too merciful for his tastes, especially when it came to prisoners. While Simba was more content with keeping prisoners alive or exiling them, Clopin leaned more towards hanging them at the gallows. Numerous arguments ensued, which distanced Clopin from Simba. Clopin eventually left and took half of the Freedom Fighters with him. They became the Rogues. Though the Rogues and the Freedom Fighters were allies, the alliance between the two armies was terse and could very well break at any given moment. Simba was sore over Clopin's betrayal, and Clopin thought Simba was a poor excuse for a leader.
Meanwhile, a newly-revived Maleficent had heard of Jafar's conquest and decided his army would do better than her goons. As soon as she got to Agrabah, she and Jafar fought one on one for command of the Blackbloods. Jafar lost. Instead of killing Jafar, she made him her second-in-command and said that he rule the Arabian Peninsula - while she ruled the rest of the world.
There are four armies. Which one will you join?
